88 kms by air from Auckland is an island in the gulf in dire need of a regular dental service. A Dentist working either one week a month or one day a week would ensure that this current need was met.

Could you be who we are looking for?

Great Barrier Island is home to 1200 residents (according to the Aotea Health register), who by the 2018 census data had a median income of $21,200. This low socio-economic metric creates a situation where flying to Auckland for dental treatment is out of many residents’ range.

The Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust is a charitable body who own, on behalf of the Islanders, all the health-related buildings and equipment. When the former resident Dentist retired and donated his equipment, the Trust was able to repurpose a suite of rooms belonging to Auckland Council to set up a Community Dental Clinic. The local community are very proud and supportive of this modern facility. Its situated adjacent to the Airport and the Community Health Centre.

Unfortunately the former contracted Dentist is no longer able to travel to the Island and the Trust is now looking for someone to replace her. The Trust is able to offer a modest lease for the facility to a practicing dentist, to fly in / fly out providing their own consumables and running the practice in a private manner, but using the community fundraised and maintained equipment.
