Revisiting Caries, Prevention and Restoration
Dental Caries is a process that may take place on any tooth Surface where dental plaque develops over time. Dentists work on a reflection or consequence of carious process, which is carious lesion. If we just dig out what seems to be caries and fill them, we lose the opportunity of optimal caries Management. Even though we dentists know well enough about caries, it is well worth revisiting fundamental concepts of caries progression, reaction and Management.
This presentation will review the fundamentals of carious process with focus on definition of carious progression, preparation guidelines and preventive/maintenance strategy. Light curing and GI material from the perspective of sealing and chemical interactions will also be briefly visited. Reversing caries to favorable balance such as remineralization depends on multiple factors. Prevention strategies including manufacturers’ preventive and therapeutic products will also be introduced. This update will give the audience insightful overview of optimal caries management strategies for dental practitioners.
About the speaker:
Dr. YC Kwon worked in various positions in 3M Health Care for about 10 years before completing a DDS degree in Chosun University in Kwangju, and Master’s and PhD in dental science from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. Dr. Kwon’s specialty is Conservative Dentistry including composite restorations and Endodontics. Dr. Kwon has lectured internationally mainly on restorative dentistry and dental materials including adhesives, composites and dental cements. Dr. Kwon has taught in Seoul National University School of Dentistry as adjunct professor and is currently working for 3M Oral Care as APAC Scientific Affairs and Education Manager.
